Lots of things happening since the holiday season ended.
Joyce finally finished her coursework and her dream has come true - she will have her college degree, B.S in Accounting Information Systems. Luncheon this Thur. 02FEB06 where she'll get her Honor's Medal . Graduation Sunday, 26FEB06. She's been sending out her resume like crazy ever since before X-mas. Finally got a bite last Friday - Texas Women's University acknowledged receipt of her resume and that they will be scheduling interviews within a week or so.
The lease on our apartment ends again this April and we can expect a rent increase and a drop in services like only 2 days of trash pickup instead of 3 (no weekends) and start paying our own water. So - knowing we're about to pay more for less we did something radical ...
This past Saturday we signed a contract on a house of our own - 3 bedroom, 2 bath, some 1600+ square ft..

We don't have to wait for it to be built - a couple from California came in and selected this house to be built, then backed out in the end. I mean to say ... buying a first house is quite the experience, but so far everything seems to be going well. We close at the end of February and moving in soon into March. The little stuff we can get in bits and pieces in March and April ('til the lease runs out.) The house is in Krum, Texas, a quiet little town out in the country west of Denton, and about 5-6 miles from my work. Off the beaten path, but close enough to the interstate that we can go to the 'city' when we need to (Denton is fairly decent sized, and Fort Worth and Dallas are about 50 miles away.) Plus, Krum is on TX-1173 which is the ultimate jumping-off point for some of the best motorcycling routes in N. Texas.
Anyway - what this ultimately means is that we will finally have a home of our own for entertaining friends and relatives and crash space for overnight visitors that may be passing through.

Date: 2006-01-30 05:19 pm (UTC)Anyway, it's just the right size for just the two of us and like I mentioned, it's situated right at the start of some of the best motorcycle riding roads in the N. Texas area so there's plenty of groups riding through on their way north and west that I could join up with - plus locals who ride every weekend.
