Despite being on 24-hour call, I was not going to deny myself the pleasure of seeing Serenity on its opening weekend.

I see the Nielson's have it in at #2, behind Flightplan, and did (what USA Today is calling a solid if unspectacular) $10.1 million. Not too shabby considering.

I really liked Firefly and was very disappointed to see it canceled. I kept wishing they made a Revell or Tyco model of Serenity that I could build.

Anyway - if you haven't seen it yet, rush out and catch it as soon as you can. IMNSHO, Serenity lived up to its hype and more. The effects were outstanding, the cast easily stepped right back into their characters and made them grow, and the storyline was quite engaging. The eventual DVD release of Serenity will most certainly be added to the Firefly collection.

My wife, on the other hand, was kind of so-so about the Firefly series. It was all right, just not outstanding. For Serenity - for the first time ever, she stayed for an entire movie - no breaks - and was completely blown away. Not that she doesn't like sci-fi, but Serenity really did it for her. We both talked about going back and seeing it again - which is something I've never done no matter how good the movie is.

The two key deaths were a bit upsetting, particularly as I am hoping that Firefly would make a comeback after Serenity, just as the Star Trek's did. I haven't convinced myself how well that would work given the losses we experienced in Serenity. One other thing - I had also hoped to have Book's past revealed ... didn't happen. Oh well.

I think the biggest disappointment for me was that they never made a soundtrack CD of the Firefly series. They had some really great music on the show - the music for the final scene in The Message for example. But, I guess you can't have everything.

It is interesting that you say that, because my immediate reaction after seeing it yesterday was that I needed to see it again. I rarely feel the need to watch movies a second time at all, let alone immediately after seeing one the first time.

I loved it too. I will go see it one more time. Sometimes it was hard to catch all the dialog, you know.

Glad we're not the only one's who had that reaction. Was tempted a number of times to go back and see a show right after seeing it the first time - most recently, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, esp. Fellowship. Serenity was just as powerful - for me at least.

No question there. When Joyce and I were watching The Message (probably for the 4th or 5th time since we got the set), she picked up a number of things she'd missed earlier on, esp. comments out of Jayne.

PS: Here's your horoscope for this week from Rob Brezny's Free Will Astrology;

SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)

In 1837, Frederick Froebel started the first school for four and five year olds in Germany. He called it "kindergarten," or child's garden, and made it into a paradisiacal sanctuary where teachers read kids poetry and stories, led them in singing songs, and oversaw them as they gardened and played outdoors. Government authorities later shut the place down, citing the "dangerous freedom" of the experiment. I expect you may soon run into comparable opposition as you practice your own personal brand of "dangerous freedom," Scorpio. How should you respond? Do whatever it takes to keep your dream alive, even if it means you have to cool it for a while. Just as the concept of kindergarten eventually revived and thrived, so too must your innovation.

This next piece is from Rob's new book: PRONOIA Is the Antidote for Paranoia: How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings. I like the thought and wanted to share it with you for your birthday.

A thousand years from today, everyone you know will be long dead and forgotten. There’ll be nothing left of the life you love, no evidence that you ever walked this planet. That, at least, is what the fundamentalist materialists would have you believe. But suppose the truth is very different? What if in fact every little thing you do subtly alters the course of world history? What if your day-to-day decisions will actually help determine how the human species navigates its way through the epic turning point we’re living through? And finally, what if you will be alive in a thousand years, reincarnated into a fresh body and in possession of the memories of the person you were back in this era? These are my hypotheses. These are my prophecies. Which is why I say: Live as if your soul is eternal.

That was so very sweet of you. How you knew it was my birthday, I can't even guess, but thanks. Love the cards - I really like the old fashioned style stuff. I particularly liked the quote from _PRONOIA_ also. Thanks again ...
