Learning to Talk

I took some time off a couple weeks ago to have some periodontal work done. After a number of visits to the dentist and periodontist, the good news was that I would only lose 2 teeth. I was quite relieved that there weren't more (knowing my family history.) Still, it's been an expensive venture so far - no surprise there, huh?

So Wed. before last I had my two extractions, bone grafts implanted, and sewn up tight. Since then I've been suffering through both an all-liquid and a soft-food only diet that's been driving me crazy. I mean, there's only so much SlimFast, mashed vegetables, and such that a die-hard carnivore can take! I should not, however, complain too loudly - there was the chocolate fudge pudding ... the 2 quarts of Dutch chocolate ice cream ... the pint of Sweet Cream ice cream. Ah - a plus side to this after all. I must admit, though, that my darling took pity on me and bought a can of hot-dog chili to mix in with my macaroni and cheese so I could have at least a 'taste' of meat over the last 2 weeks.

Anyway, the stitches come out tomorrow morning, there's some "tweaking" to be done on my partial, but tomorrow endeth my soft food diet - just in time for T-Giving. 3 days into this, I told my sweetheart that I missed pizza something terrible so I expect she's gonna treat me to a visit to Cici's. Unfortunately, the removal of the stitches tomorrow may leave my gums too tender to really enjoy such a visit. Maybe we'll wait until after T-Giving day.

Anyway, now I have a full smile again. Of course, I'm having to re-learn how to talk, I can't whistle like I used to, and it's broken me of my ice-chewing habit (unless it's the soft ice you get at Sonic ), but it's kind of nice to have a mouth full of teeth again, even if five of them are fake. (Comes with age I guess. Did I mention I passed from Respected Elder-hood to the status of Venerable Sage? Oh - wait a sec ... I forgot what the age cutoff was.)
